Volunteer Rewards
There are several forms of rewards for NPCing, donations, submitting material, other volunteer tasks, and so on. These rewards are generally not
transferrable between players.
Raven Points - Given as rewards for submissions to the plot or systems teams, prop donations, and volunteering for
logistics team positions. Raven Points are redeemable for various discounts on things with real-world value, such as event costs and food.
You can think of them like air miles, but less of a rip-off. Raven Points can be used in the following ways:
- When buying Food Points, you may spend Raven Points at a rate of 1 for 1 to get more Food Points, up to the amount you are buying with
money.
- When paying for an event at the door or paying for the meal plan, you may spend Raven Points to discount your event cost by up to 50%, at a rate of 1 Raven Point
per $1.
- You can "buy back" a death your PC has suffered by spending 25 Raven Points.
- You can buy influence with any of the main factions at a rate of 1 influence for 1 Raven Point, to a maximum of 20 points spent per event.
- A "minor spirit forge", which allows you to respend your PC's build points (keeping the same race and class) can be obtained for 20 Raven
Points.
- A "major spirit forge", which allows you to change your PC's class and respend their build points (keeping the same race) can be obtained
for 50 Raven Points. This option may only be taken once per calendar year.
XP Tokens - When you PC an event, you get a base amount of build based on your character's current level (as detailed
in the rulebook) with the opportunity to use XP tokens (one XP token for a day event; two XP tokens for a weekend event)
to gain an extra bonus amount. For a weekend event you only gain the bonus amount once for spending two XP tokens; spending only one XP token gets nothing.
There are 3 ways to get XP tokens:
- On your first event, you get 2 XP tokens for free.
- NPCing one full event gets you 3 XP tokens for a day event or 6 XP tokens for a weekend event.
- Bringing a new player to the game gets you 4 XP tokens.
- You can trade in 10 Raven Points to receive 1 XP token.
In addition to using XP Tokens to gain more build from PCing an event, several other options are available to reward players who NPC or bring
new players to Raven.
- By spending 6 XP Tokens, you can receive a 50% discount on the at the door price of a day event, or 12 XP Tokens for a weekend event.
- XP Tokens can be traded for influence with any of the main factions at a rate of 4 influence for 1 XP Token, to a maximum of 20 influence per event.
- A "minor spirit forge", which allows you to respend your PC's build points (keeping the same race and class) can be obtained for
12 XP Tokens.
- A "major spirit forge", which allows you to change your PC's class and respend their build points (keeping the same race) can be
obtained for 30 XP Tokens. This option may only be taken once per calendar year.
Cold Hard Cash - NPC volunteers will be paid an honorarium based on a profit-sharing model of 10% of admissions revenue
divided evenly among the full-time NPCs. (Staff members are excluded, and individual NPCs are free to opt out if they choose.)
For example, if there are 20 PCs paying $60 apiece ($1200 total) and 6 NPCs, each NPC will receive $20 (6 equal shares of $120)
in addition to the usual rewards like XP tokens. This reward system serves two primary goals:
- Making NPCing as "free" as possible by helping to cover expenses like transportation and food.
- Creating a self-scaling reward that increases dramatically if there are very few NPCs. If only one NPC shows up,
the incentives for players to switch over are significant.
We would like to emphasize that if there are a large number of NPCs, this reward may not be as significant as you expect.
We encourage potential volunteers to take this for what it is -- a way to cover some of the costs involved in playing, not
a part-time job!
If the Cold Hard Cash amount is less than the cost of the meal plan for an event, you may choose to take "free meal plan" as a reward instead.
Heritage Points - This is a long-term loyalty reward.
The main way to get Heritage Points is simply by either PCing 50% of the season events or showing up (NPC or PC) for at least 75%
of the season events. Heritage Points unlock new "perks" and options when creating a new character.
Heritage Points are not used up; if you have 3 points and create a character with 3 points worth of options, you still have
those 3 points to carry on to your next character after that.
